HOW MANY LESSONS DO I NEED?

This is a good question. Keep in mind that kinesthetic re-education takes into consideration decades of habit. In my experience, there is a basic understanding of the principles of the technique and a reduction of discomfort after 10 lessons. After 20 lessons, efficiency in movement becomes more familiar and awareness of inefficient habits is heightened. In general, a course of 30 lessons is recommended in order to achieve a level of self-care that will facilitate an independent experience. Some people with chronic pain, ingrained harmful habits, and injuries may require more, others may require less. It also depends upon how far you want to go with the technique. Certified Alexander teachers have had 1600 hours of kinesthetic training, and we still learn and benefit from lessons!

HOW OFTEN DO I NEED TO COME IN FOR LESSONS?

A once a week lesson is recommended. Two or three weekly lessons will enable a quicker relief from chronic pain and poor postural habits will be addressed sooner. F. M. Alexander insisted on seeing people initially 3 or 4 times per week when he began teaching; however, given most people’s busy lives this may be challenging. There are various ways of scheduling lessons based on student’s availability and budget, and these issues can be discussed at the initial appointment.
